The Beach Escape: Family Activities & Ideas

August 7, 2017 by BasilPuglisi Leave a Comment

Summer is here, and if your family is anything like mine where the summer wouldn’t be complete without a family beach escape, then you should be getting ready a list of activities and ideas to make the experience, even more fun than the last one. Although as adults, when someone mentions hot summer days, what we dream of may be a little bit different, the foremost goal for a family trip to the beach is to make it the best and the most memorable for everyone in the family.

Now, when it comes to kids, it can be relatively difficult to find a spot that is both safe for them to swim and also offers a playground, toilet and the all-important cafes or kiosks for coffees and ice cream at the same time. Finding an establishment with all these features is great, as you have just the fun to think about while you cherish your family time together as a family, especially if both parents are working and unable to spend this much time with their kids on most days.

Whether it is just for a day, a weekend, or a whole week, you must make sure your kids have as much fun as you can pack into your limited time. And if you’re still wondering and thinking about fun activities and ideas beyond the sunbathing, swimming and building a sand castle; then there’s good news.

There are lots of activities to do on a family beach vacation that’ll entertain and excite your kids and also give them a great story to tell when they return to school.

Fly a Kite.

You can either buy one or make one yourself or better still with the kids, the main factor you should look out for is making sure your kite is very colorful, trendy, and flight-worthy.

You must understand that sometimes kids lose interest really fast, and so, it is up to you to make each activity exciting by giving hyping it up and if it’s the competitive type, playfully pit one team against the other for a little bit of competitive fun. It’s an opportunity for the kids to run, swim, play, and learn how to be graceful winners or humble losers.

Water Play.

To do this, you must have brought boats and other floating toys to play with in the water. Please play safe, be at alert and make sure the spot is suitable for your kid’s age.

Beach Relay

Get your little hurdlers in game mode. Giving each player a cup, place little buckets at the other side and have them fill their cups, run, then empty them into their respective buckets. Anyone who fills his or her bucket first wins! Now it’s time for lots of cheers, and you can go ahead and even toss them in the air, carrying them on your shoulder and make them feel like a winner.

Beach Scavenger Hunt

Giving this an adventure theme, make your little ones know that the beach is full of hidden treasures. Make sure items are easy to find, then let them lose – you can also have a list of items, then you can make them start off from the easy to the rare treasures. Now when the game is over, you can use these treasures of stones, shells, driftwood, etc., to create art on the sand. Painted rocks always make a nice addition to the finest sandcastles around.

Beach Aim Game

Draw shapes in the sand; it could be a circle or square tagging them with numbers 1-3 or even 5. Where shape number 1 is closer, and shape number 3 is farther. Challenge your kids to target shapes with stones and gain points taking turns. Remember if you toss a stone that lands outside the target shape, you gain no points – Let the games begin!

Take a Sand Photo

Draw in the smooth, wet sand with a stick with everyone’s footprint well imprinted; take a photo to remember your trip by.

Bury someone’s hands and feet in the sand. Anyone should be ready to do this, even dad, and mom.

There are many other very interesting games you can engage your kids in but remember to come prepared with all the beach toys you’ll need, also sand toys like shovels, bucket, and other accessories

You can also:

  • Play with squirt guns
  • Play tag or chase
  • Make sand angels
  • Play beach volleyball
  • Allow your kids make new friends

Musical Towels

Definitely better with those new friends, make sure you came with little speakers or maybe just your iPhone, lay the towels in a circle and put on a favorite tune and have the kids game on.

Take a break

After spending time in the sun, you can relax with the kids on your beach blanket, have a picnic, to read a good story book or even watch the sunset.

Most importantly, when planning a family beach vacation also do well to get ideas from all your family members. Know what they want too, this will ensure that everyone has something to look forward to and as such a fun time will definitely be achieved.

Lastly, depending on the age of your family members you can also incorporate parasailing, snorkeling and scuba diving, boogie boarding, badminton, Jet Ski rentals, wind surfing, or beach volleyball, and Frisbee.
