Wow! I don’t know where you woke up today, but where I woke up here on the central east coast, it was suddenly fall. I realized that had I planned a pool day for my granddaughter today, those plans would totally be off. So what can you do when the weather starts to become chillier in the mornings than you’re comfortable being out in? How about as the evenings get a bit crisper than usual as well?
Cool Weather Family Fun and Activities
If you have little ones, you have a few great options when it comes to keeping them entertained on cool early mornings and evenings this fall.

Try an Easy Science Experiment – Children of all ages love to see the magic that can be found in science! Check out this water walking experiment!
Cooking – All kids love cooking, especially when they get to get their hands dirty or the outcome is a delicious morsel they treasure.
Contests and Competitions – Just like the scavenger hunt, any activity that encourages contests and competitions among siblings is always a winner, especially when the reward is attractive.
Don’t Forget the Outdoors!
Hey, it’s not winter yet. No time to hibernate. The fall can make the best time to get outdoors. Less sunburns, less humidity and in some places around the United States, the fall foliage is award winning, drawing millions to remote areas to check out the wild colors available in nature during this transitional season.
Collect Rocks – Little kids love collecting rocks. And with fall just around the corner, you’ll be able to start a relatively surface and small collection now and grow it as the season grows towards winter and the foliage in your area has died down a bit. Once those walking paths become clear again, you’ll find no small share of rocks any child would consider pretty and valuable.
Take a Family Bike Ride – Without the intense sun beating down taking those slight hills can become a lot easier, especially if your bike is dragging a trailer full of babies. Nevertheless, fall is a super time to explore your neighborhood by bike and to get those older kids out and about without a phone in their hands! One simply does not text while bike riding.
Wildlife Watching – Even the smallest patch of woods can produce a variety of wildlife. If you have one nearby charge the children with spotting various types of wildlife available in your area. Print up a check list and the first one to return with a complete list is the winner!
