Description: On July and August weekends (excluding July 4/5) brigades from the American Revolution will be stationed throughout the Museum in full uniform ready to answer your questions and share their stories about life on and off the battlefield. And if you’re a revolutionary history buff, don’t miss the special installation: Lafayette’s Return: The “Boy General,” the American Revolution, and the Hermione. Although a member of the French aristocracy, the Marquis de Lafayette devoted his youth to the American Revolution. He went on to play a major role in George Washington’s defeat of the British army, aiding the patriots through both diplomatic and military action. All ages.

Description: For the first three Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC’s streets will be closed to traffic for people to play, run, walk and bike.In 2014, more than 300,000 people took part in the event which is part bike tour, part walking tour, part block party. New to Summer Streets this year is Slide the City, a 270-foot water slide based at the Foley Square Rest Stop where participants can slide down and cool off during the hot summer mornings. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to slide through the streets of New York City on a tube. Participants must register in advance online at nyc.gov/summerstreets. Other activities include soccer, dance, performances, yoga, a dog park, art installations, arts and crafts, entertainment, food and drink. Not forgetting the famous 165-foot-long, 30-foot-high zip line!

Description: For over 100 years, the Police Athletic League (PAL) has provided safe places to play and learn for thousands of Queens children. New York City youngsters play traditional sidewalk games, develop their creativity through the arts, and learn from a wide range of educational, recreational and cultural arts specialists.
PAL’s Summer Playstreets Program closes off streets and utilizes other public areas, such as playgrounds and parks, throughout New York City to provide children with safe, supervised places to enjoy outdoor summer activities. Playstreets offer sports, arts and crafts, games, music and dance. Featured activities include Double Dutch jump rope, Hopscotch, Nok Hockey and basketball. PAL is operating over 40 Playstreets throughout the five boroughs this summer, in addition to offering Cops & Kids teams and close to 20 summer day camps. New York City’s Police Athletic League is the first and finest civilian-run PAL in the country. Founded in 1914, PAL has served the city’s young people for over 100 years. PAL provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to 35,000 boys and girls annually. It is also the city’s largest, independent, nonprofit youth organization.
