Family Entertainment in the Lake Lifestyle

If you’re as lucky as I was as a kid, you also have a lake nearby within a tolerable traveling distance. Nothing like the lake life, really! Packing up the summer wet suits and jumping in the car on a Friday for a short romp up the road to the place where camping, cookouts and camaraderie are all on the list. Have you even been considering purchasing that lake home? Or renting out that amazing cabin at the lake closest to you this summer? If so, prepare yourself for the kind of family activities and entertainment you’ll be able to enjoy living the lake lifestyle.

Family Entertainment in the Lake Lifestyle
Lake activities can mean a variety of things from water skiing, wake-boarding, rowing, to fishing and sailing, and more. It’s a water sports paradise. So if you do have a lake in nearby, easy driving distance, it makes complete sense to entertain the lake lifestyle in the warmer months of the year. However, don’t completely ignore the beautiful possibilities of a white Christmas on the lake, snuggled in with your family, either.

Choose Your Accommodations Wisely
Whether you’re planning to rent or purchase, you should factor in affordability versus the space available. For a small family of 2 or 3 people, a small lakeside cabin may be the perfect answer. For a larger family or multiple family vacations, a bigger lake house or lodge would be a better fit. In choosing, remember that part of any good vacation is getting to relax and unwind, so shop for a place that allows a bit of privacy for everyone.

The Comforts of Home
Part of a relaxing atmosphere is having those small comforts from home. Remember that your rental property may not come with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. It’s a great idea to have a checklist of items that need to be packed away when you’re headed up to the lakehouse. If your lakehouse doesn’t come with a fully-functional kitchen, buy a grill and induction cooking top to keep at the lakehouse permanently. These can also be used as part of the perks if you are purchasing and need to supplement the rental income by renting to vacationers throughout the year.
Make the Lakehouse Experience one of Family and Friends
Set a balance of activities you may want to indulge in with other adults versus the adults and children interacting together. Everyone can enjoy outdoor games and most will be very glad to join in the water games on those hot summer days. Time your activities so that everyone is nearby and easy to reach close to meal times for less frustration in gathering the troops for everyone. Be sure to send children out to enjoy nearby activities only in pairs or groups for safety and have a pre-plan in order for anyone who gets lost or disoriented in an unfamiliar place.
Take Advantage of the Water
Most lakes will have a variety of suitable activities for just about all ages. If you have your own dock, you can go swimming, snorkeling or simply relax nearby on an inner tube or other floating lake toy. Rent a large boat for those fuller family gatherings and get everyone to try out their sea legs in a water skiing attempt or rent separate jet skis for some real rushing over the water lake fun. A nice short venture on a kayak or canoe can add some romance in the adults lives and some time away from the parents for the kids. Stop, breathe, meditate near the water. Enjoy.
