Description: A gardening program for children ages 3-5 years and an accompanying adult. Among the simple gardening projects appropriate for preschoolers are: planting seeds, watering the garden, and tasting fresh greens and vegetables – all organically grown. Children will see a variety of plants, butterflies, insects, worms, and birds – all part of the natural cycle of the garden. Feel cool water on a hot day and the different textures of leaves and plants in the garden. They will smell herbs (lemon verbena, dill, mint, and basil) and flowers (lavender, marigold, and scented geraniums). Each week there is a new, garden-theme.

Description: Come down to Teardrop park for fun-filled afternoons of art projects and games for ages 5 and older. Each week children can enjoy a different art project; drawing, sculpting, and creating group projects such as murals. The art portion of the afternoon will be led by the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy’s Artist/Educators. BPCPC’s Parks Programming Leaders (specially trained Play Leaders) plan games based on their understanding of the various stages of child development, and teach games that encourage a sense of community through cooperative play. Participating children are always welcomed to suggest games. Parks Programming Leaders are prepared to help get games started with perennial favorites such as red light green light, Mr. Fox, asteroids, Wiffle Ball and four square. All art materials and play supplies are provided.

X Marks the Spot Game Design Workshop: Aug. 26-30; 2pm, 3pm and 4pm; 6 and older; sign up required. Following a treasure map is like playing a game. There are directions, rules and a goal. In this workshop, learn the about game design and create your own inspired by school-yard games, card games and board games.
Venue Description: Hoping to motivate children and families to learn about themselves and the various cultures of the world, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) houses a variety of interactive exhibitions and programs. Over 80 workshops, classes, and performances are offered FREE with admission to the museum each week. The museum boasts four priority areas: its early childhood education program, which prepares children for kindergarten; creativity in the arts and sciences to encourage creative and analytical thinking; healthy lifestyles programs that address the physical and emotional feelings within a family; and the exploration of world cultures, which provides children with an awareness of our diverse society. Additional programs and exhibits include the celebrated PlayWorks? floor for preschoolers; Gods, Myth and Mortals: Discover Ancient Greece, which is designed to introduce art, science, and literature to children; and the Healthy Living programming, created with healthcare providers to encourage good nutrition and daily exercise. Current limited-time programs include Amusement Park Science and American Dreamland: Artwork by Philomena Maran.
