In the last year there has been a lot of attention to local offerings, the digital space is really paying attention to local happenings, be it business, events or politics. As Patch has found its place offering hyper local coverage for communities across America, just about 200 patches now offer community coverage in a digital format the way local community newspapers used to tell you about what was happening.
It’s my prediction that local is going to become a corner stone in the digital space, people are going to turn more and more to community happenings and its going to be interesting to see who corners the market and how people respond to the digital convenience. While the internet keeps offering a fast and up to date space, those that concur the mobile and emotional responses to community coverage are going to win big!
While many are looking at local news like the newspaper, it’s no secret that fun is what goes viral in social media, so the first to build around positive community happenings like local sports, festivals, new business openings and other positive stories about the ethos of a community is bound to capture the audience they want both in the local market and more importantly in the seasonal market!
Think about what is going to make that community proud to showcase, because if you do they’ll sell it to the seasonal visitors and those tourists will rely on that for the information they need or want, which means the community will rely on you.
